inCouple of months ago, i was totally clueless of the “No! go” area’s of this city. A huge advantages of living downtown is the easy access to everything literally everything.
In all honestly, i was completely unprepared for what i saw. I remember walking on Georgia st. heading towards Granville st. taking in the view, falling inlove with every coffee shop and boutique in and around the pacific center, being thrilled by Gastown’s originality. Then; i recall making a turn at the wrong intersection, this was an extremely horrific sight; homelessness, poverty, hawker and druggies all over the block. The men who roamed Cambie St. at Downtown eastside, carried despair in their eyes and the women had abuse written all over their bodies, i hurriedly made a U-turn and headed for Downtown central (the Dtwn i know). If this isn’t gentrification, then please vancouverites enlighten me. I am curious to know how a walk around my Downtown can easily go from CHIC to SHOCK ?
