I have a problem with Double Standard
I often volunteer at two women centres.
One of them accommodates women dealing with addiction, rape, violence or advocacy cases and the second centre accommodates former and current Sex workers; which makes the first centre to look like a well polished and shiny penny.
It is necessary to state that; though each centre welcomes two ” different” set of women, both centre work hard to promote Respect, Validation and the Empowerment of Women at all causes.
At the moment, three of my project mates and myself are working on a task for our community class. We were asked to discuss issues linked with Sex Workers & Prostitution and possible solutions.
<< As a Woman, a volunteer Co-facilitator at a drop in centre , Christian and Citizen of the Earth; I strongly believe that, I will be completely out of line to judge a Sex worker. It is my responsibility to unite with others who speak up against social and moral injustice against women including female sex workers because, their voice matter as much as mine >>
Anyways,
The discussion got heated, after all tree of these men admitted to picking up women at bars or using the services provided by sex workers because they made it a point to state that they only engaged with women who weren’t from country X, Y or Z.
My immediate response was, what’s the deal with country X, Y and Z? Turns out each of these men were born in one of these countries, in their own words “they don’t like messing with women from X, Y, Z because they could be potential wives” they went to extend of saying that “women from North America are usually easy and tramps”
EXCUSE YOU !!!!!
i really felt like ripping off my hair … I’ll give them this; it’s your sex life so i won’t voice my opinions on your night stands and side excesses
But i refuse to remain silent on the double standard going on here;
I am frustrated by the fact that; three young men have jointly denied to use their intellect by choosing to merry in stereotypes.
Young men, you are WRONG and IGNORANT for assuming that all women with nationalities other than yours are easy, tramps and not worthy of respect. I don’t know where you hangout but we Women don’t live on your “PLANET” because your assumptions are seriously far-fetched
I am super frustrated at the fact that up until now, you’ve not been introduced to a word called ” inter-racial” relationships /couple/marriage. I don’t mean to burst your bubble but every time i walk down the street, i see at least 3 women from your country holding hands and smooching with men of different nationalities.
I’ve got one more shocker for you, i made my research, prostitution, sex trafficking, stripe clubs exist in your home town. I guess the women from X, Y and Z aren’t holier than thou !! as you claimed
Quit the double standard, Karma is a B….
Respect Women’s right, Men’s right, LGTBQ right and Human Right
